The probability of developing skin cancer once in a lifetime is about 20%. The earlier skin cancer can be detected, the better are the chances of recovery. This is why the start-up medaia (=MEDicalArtificialIntelligenceApplications) – founded by dermatologist Michael Tripolt and partners – has developed its app SkinScreener. This is the world’s first app which uses an artificial intelligence algorithm to detect skin tumours at an early stage and is a smart addition to the recommended annual dermatological examination. You only have to take a photo of the designated skin area with your mobile phone camera and the app shows the risk level by using a simple traffic light system. The algorithm for the app was developed over the last few years and successfully tested as part of an extensive medical study. Until the end of 2020, medaia was settled at the ZWT and moved to its new location at the Smart Business Center at the beginning of 2021.
